The craft…
Giving the new students at LSE the “wow” factor for their open week.
The brief
To deliver a big free-standing walkway entrance & life-size letters spelling “welcome”.
The concept
To create an archway for the entrance walkway of LSE, big enough for a car to drive through and in a zig/zag pattern of the university's colour scheme & Life-size lettering spelling “welcome”. With white borders and astro turf filling the middle of each letter.
The Creation
It took two weeks to create the archway. From fabricating the sections into blocks made from timber and ply. To hiring an artist to help with the final aesthetic finish of the zig/zag university brand colours. We CNC machined the letters and bridged the gaps together with batten and flexi-ply to give us each letter. Once constructed, we painted and then stapled the astro turf to each letter for its final effect.
the experience…
It was great working with such a prestigious institution and to have exceeded the intended outcome of each project was amazing to see, especially once we had installed each project in its former glory.
